Chanu Saikhom Mirabai was born on August 8, 1994 in “Nongpok Kakching, Imphal, Manipur“.

She belongs to a Hindu Meitei family.

Important Fact - The Meitei people more commonly known as Manipuri people belong to a ethnic group who resides to the state of Manipur in northeastern India. The Meitei people have primarily settled in the Imphal Valley region in Manipur.

Her father “Saikhom Kriti Meitei” works in a “Public works department” while her mother “Mrs. Saikhom Ongbi Tombi Leima” runs a small shop, where she sells Samosas.

They both always have been a biggest support to Mirabai Chanu.

Mirabai also has other three sisters and two brothers.

Career Details of Saikhom Mirabai Chanu

Chanu Saikhom Mirabai got her first major breakthrough to “2014 CommonWealth Games“.

She had won the silver medal in the 48 Kg weight category.

After that,

In 2016,

Charu managed to get qualified for “2016 Rio Olympics” in the women’s 48 Kgs category.

But, Unfortunately she didn’t win in the event.

FInally in 2017,

She won the Gold medal in the Women’s 48 kg category for a record breaking 194 kg lift in total, in the “2017 World Weightlifting Championships

The event was held in ‘Anaheim, CA, United States”.

Chanu also won the gold medal for India in the “CommonWealth Games in 2018” for lifting a total of 196 Kg, 86 Kg in snatch and 110 Kg in Clean and Jerk.

While, winning the Gold medal, Mirabai broke the games record for the highest weight category.

Later in 2019,

She won Bronze in Clean and Jerk in 49 kg Category at “Asian Weightlifting Championships“.

Later in 2019,

The World Weightlifting Championships“, Mirabai lifted a total weight of around 202 Kgs, out of which 87 Kgs Snatch and 114 Kgs Clean & Jerk to finish at the 4th position.

Later in 2019 itself,

Mirabai broke her own personal record of weightlifting by lifting 203 Kgs out of which 88 Kgs in Snatch and 115 Kgs in Clean & Jerk in just four months in 2020 to win the Gold medal in the “2020 Senior National Weightlifting Championships“.
